The three most important commands

More information about English

Jesus gave many commandments, but three are very significant. We commonly call them the Great Commandment and the Great Commission.

Love God

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. (Matthew 22:37)

God created us for a relationship of love. We show our love through heartfelt obedience to God:

John 15:10

Love people

Love your neighbor as yourself. (Matthew 22:39)

Love is not only expressed through words or feelings, but actions. Loving others is often hard, especially when we are on our own. We need to support each other in this by being mutually accountable to one another to love people and obey God.

Make disciples

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. (Matthew 28:19-20)

God wants all people to be reconciled to Him. He sends His disciples out to proclaim the message, lead people to faith in Jesus, and teach them to obey what Jesus teaches – including this commandment! When disciples go and make disciples who make disciples... the Kingdom of God grows by multiplication.

Keeping a good balance

It is important that we follow all three of the most important commands equally. Therefore we pay the same attention to each of them in every meeting: See Training meeting outline and Three-Thirds Process.
